vID
State repository search

Statewide criminal record searches.

A statewide criminal search queries a state repository or central court system. Depending on the state, it can outperform several county searches — or badly miss counties that contribute late or not at all.

Also called state repository search, state criminal records, AOC search.

How it runs on vID

  1. Identity verified
  2. Search runs
  3. Report returned

What it covers

  • Cases aggregated from contributing counties and courts, at the level the repository holds
  • Wider in-state coverage than a few hand-picked counties, useful for long in-state histories
  • Upper-level infractions in repositories that collect only those — know this before skipping misdemeanor counties

State repositories receive data from local agencies that may or may not send it, and lower-level infractions are often missing — JDP’s own product notes say so. That is why 3rd Degree and DataFacts sell state searches as a complement to county, not a replacement, and why availability varies by state.

What it covers

  • Wider in-state coverage than a few hand-picked counties, useful for long in-state histories

What it doesn’t cover

  • Guarantee complete in-state coverage; contribution and refresh vary by state
  • Cover other states, federal court, or a county you skipped
  • Exist in every state in a form worth ordering

Where the data comes from.

State court administrative systems

The better ones are close to a real index of court filings.

State police / central criminal repositories

Often conviction-focused, often lagged, and sometimes fingerprint-gated.

Why identity comes first.

A bound name and DOB from vID, plus aliases from the trace, is how a statewide search avoids both misses and false matches. Repositories that return thin records need that corroboration more, not less.

How the network fulfills it.

Partner CRAs already maintain the matrix of which statewide products exist, what they cost, and how they lag. We fulfill through that matrix instead of selling a fictional 50-state repository.

This is the wrong search if…

You are dropping county searches to “upgrade” to statewide

Ask whether this state’s file includes the court tier you care about. If no one can answer, keep the counties.

The person has a two-state history and you ordered one statewide

One statewide search covers one state. The other state still needs a strategy.

Frequently asked questions.

Buy the state file when the file is good.

Otherwise you are paying repository prices for a laggy subset of counties you should have searched anyway.
