vID
Address and alias locator by SSN

SSN traces for names and address history.

An SSN trace queries credit-header and commercial locator data for the names and addresses historically tied to a Social Security number. CRAs like JDP use it to decide which counties, states, and federal districts to search; it is instant and included in Standard.

Also called social security trace, address locator, SSN ID search, credit header trace.

How it runs on vID

  1. Identity verified
  2. Search runs
  3. Report returned

What it covers

  • Names and aliases tied to the number, including many maiden and previous-married names
  • Address history that suggests which counties, states, and federal districts to search
  • Basic issuance red flags, such as a number issued before the listed date of birth

An SSN trace contains no criminal history — it tells you someone lived in Maricopa County under a maiden name so you know to search Maricopa County under that name. Treat the output as a research plan, and bind the person with vID first so the traced number is attached to a document.

What it covers

  • Names and aliases tied to the number, including many maiden and previous-married names
  • Address history that suggests which counties, states, and federal districts to search
  • Basic issuance red flags, such as a number issued before the listed date of birth

What it doesn’t cover

  • Prove the applicant is the true holder of the number; that is closer to CBSV
  • Contain criminal history, even when a vendor prints it beside criminal results
  • Guarantee current residence; locator data lags and contains errors

Where the data comes from.

Credit-header / commercial locator files

Bureau and aggregator files partner CRAs query — not a credit report and not a score.

Why identity comes first.

If the SSN was typed by someone else, the trace maps someone else’s life. vID’s document capture puts the number and the person in the same file.

How the network fulfills it.

JDP calls it SSN ID Search and uses it for jurisdictional development; DataFacts bundles SSN validation and alias/address history into the national. We run it through the network the same way, then turn the address list into court work.

This is the wrong search if…

You thought this was the background check

It is the locator that plans the search, not the search itself.

You needed SSA to confirm the trio

Order CBSV. The trace is commercial locator data, not the Social Security Administration.

Use the trace, then search the addresses.

Standard already includes the trace, and Plus uses it to pick counties. That is the whole point of the product.
