vID
State DMV driving record

Motor vehicle records for driver screening.

An MVR queries the issuing state’s DMV for license status, class, violations, and suspensions. Each state sets its own fee, reporting window, and DPPA permissible-use rules.

Also called MVR, driving record, driver’s license check, motor vehicle report.

How it runs on vID

  1. Identity verified
  2. Search runs
  3. Report returned

What it covers

  • License status, class, and endorsements as the issuing state reports them
  • Moving violations, suspensions, and revocations within that state’s reporting window
  • A standardized report where the fulfilling partner normalizes state codes

A criminal search will not show a suspended license — only the DMV has it. DataFacts, JDP, 3rd Degree, NCSI, and Samba-connected partners query state DMVs directly, and vID binds the person to the scanned license so the wrong person’s record is not pulled.

What it covers

  • License status, class, and endorsements as the issuing state reports them
  • Moving violations, suspensions, and revocations within that state’s reporting window
  • A standardized report where the fulfilling partner normalizes state codes

What it doesn’t cover

  • Records from other states where the person was licensed, unless you ordered those too
  • Non-driving criminal history
  • A Clearinghouse query, a PSP, or a DOT testing program

Where the data comes from.

State DMVs

Direct connections via partner CRAs and MVR networks; fees are state-set and passed through.

Why identity comes first.

vID already captured the license document, so the DMV gets the scanned identifier instead of a typed number. That is what keeps the wrong person’s record out of the file.

How the network fulfills it.

Each state DMV is a separate connection, and no single CRA covers all of them equally. The network lets a multi-state fleet order through one flow instead of four vendor logins. For ongoing alerts, see MVR monitoring.

This is the wrong search if…

The person does not drive for you

Skip it. An MVR on a non-driver adds cost, not information.

You are in a DOT CDL program and think the MVR is the whole program

Add Clearinghouse, PSP, testing, and the rest. The MVR is necessary and not sufficient.
