Workplace & DOT panels

Workplace drug and alcohol testing.

Panel, specimen, collection site, lab, and medical review — a drug test is an appointment with rules attached, and DOT adds a federal procedure on top. This category covers workplace panels, DOT testing, hair, and breath alcohol.

The short version

The real questions are whether the role falls under DOT’s 49 CFR Part 40, whether a collection site is near the candidate, and what state law lets you do with a result. Partner CRAs run the clinics, labs, and Medical Review Officers; vID verifies the person who shows up.

If you only remember one thing

DOT testing is not a stricter 5-panel. It is a different legal program. Non-DOT workplace testing is a policy choice constrained by state cannabis and disability law. Do not mix the two kits, cutoffs, or forms.

When you need these.

Safety-sensitive non-DOT work

Warehouses, home services, some healthcare and childcare employers. A workplace panel through an in-network clinic, with MRO on non-negatives.

DOT-covered drivers and other Part 40 roles

Use the DOT product, the DOT collection protocol, and the Clearinghouse. A workplace 10-panel is not a substitute.

What this category includes.

  1. 01

    Workplace drug testing

    Non-DOT workplace drug screens

JDP, 3rd Degree, DataFacts, and other network CRAs run in-network lab panels (often in the mid-$40s at in-network sites), instant devices, and marijuana-redacted options where the law has moved. vID sells it as an add-on because it is a logistics product, not a database query hiding in Standard.

  2. 02

    DOT drug testing

    Federal Part 40 drug testing

Clearinghouse, PSP, CDLIS, DOT physical, and this test are one set — order them as one. vID binds the driver; a DOT-capable partner runs the program.

  3. 03

    Hair follicle testing

    Months-long detection window

Candidates learn how long to abstain before a urine test; hair defeats that. The trade-offs are cost, collection logistics (enough hair), and the same state-law questions as any drug test.

  4. 04

    Breath alcohol testing

    Measures current alcohol level

DOT alcohol testing has its own protocol, separate from drug panels. Workplace alcohol testing carries policy and disability-law issues, so we fulfill BATs through partners with actual technicians.

    What it covers

How these get fulfilled.

JDP, 3rd Degree, DataFacts, and other network CRAs already operate clinic networks, SAMHSA labs, instant devices, hair testing, and DOT breath-alcohol technicians. vID does not become a TPA; it orders through partners that are.

Frequently asked questions.

Order the panel that matches the rulebook.

Workplace testing for policy. DOT testing for Part 40. Hair or breath when the detection window or the substance is the point.
